About Dropping Shots

Hello, My name is John Gibson and Dropping Shots is an idea, dream, goal that I am finally making happen.

Dropping Shots is me pursuing an opportunity to do something worthwhile in the golf world. My goal is for this to be a place to share golf experiences and interesting stories.

Personally, I am in the process of teaching my own kids this wonderful game. As I progress and try new techniques I will share what I learned on Dropping Shots.

This will be a place full of tips, tricks, practice routines, and training aids – to help not only you as a golfer but to help teach the next generation of players.

I want Dropping Shots to become a trusted resource for honest unbiased reviews of the best equipment in the game.

Whether you are a total beginner or a seasoned player I want Dropping Shots to be a place you can come for the best most up to date information.

My dream is to turn this into a full-time job where I can make a living from something I created while doing something that I love. Isn’t that the goal in life?

My Story

Golf has been a part of my life since before I could even talk in full sentences, or had any idea what the sport actually was. I was given my first plastic club at 2 years old and my love for the game was born.

As I grew up most of my core memories happened on the golf course.

Memories Like…

  • Watching my dad play to the point where to this day we have the exact same swing.
  • Him allowing me to hit a few shots before telling me to pick it up because we have people behind us.
  • Finally being good enough to play entire holes without needing to pick my ball up.

This continued to a full addiction, where if I wasn’t at school I would be at the golf course.

To this day golf is imperative to both my dad and I, and how we bond.

I genuinely believe this is one of the greatest aspects of the sport. The bonding, good times, and memories of that amazing shot on 18, that you share with your family, golfing buddies, or even a complete stranger – that is the beauty of golf.

And of course who doesn’t love that ice cold drink while talking about the round afterwards.

In High School was when my game started getting next-level and I realized I could compete.

I had big dreams, like all kids at that age, of playing in the PGA, getting rich, and winning majors. I think anyone who grows up around the sport has these thoughts at some point.

This was when

  • I beat my dad for the first time.
  • Chipped in my first eagle (and yes the eagle and beating my dad happened in the same round). I still have the ball from that day.
  • Junior year I got my first hole in one (still my only one). I was with my dad and late grandfather and this is a memory I will always treasure.

As I got older, my love for golf never dwindled, however, I began to develop other goals and aspirations. I was a military brat and wanted to serve my country just like my old man.

A decision was made and that is what I did. I put my golf dreams of stardom away, entered the real world, joined the United States Air Force, and became a Firefighter.

Now 15 years later I am a husband, a father of 2 beautiful daughters and Assistant Chief in my Fire Department.

I play as much as life allows.

Finally, I am at the point where I can go on some trips. Play some amazing courses all over the world, and naturally share my experiences right here on Dropping Shots.

Blue Bay Golf Course, Curacao Hole #6. Par 3.

I am beyond fortunate to currently live and work on the Caribbean island of Curacao. Talk about good weather – it is perfect golf conditions year-round!

There are 2 courses on the island, and I am lucky enough to have my pick. These are some of the most scenic courses you can imagine.

As Dropping Shots grows I will have more to add here, but for now, if you have made it this far I just want to thank you. This site cannot continue to grow without you.

I hope that I can cover whatever it is you have come to Dropping Shots for.

Entertainment or Information I am doing everything I can to give you the best source for an all-in-one place.

I would like to leave you with some wisdom my grandfather always said to me.

Keep your head down, and hit em’ straight!
